The original painting 'Portrait of a Korimako' (Bellbird) features a NZ native korimako bird, also known as the bellbird. It is surrounded by vibrant harakeke (flax) blooms, on which it loves to feed upon.
The korimako is a medium-sized species of honeyeater endemic to New Zealand. It has been the only living member of the genus Anthornis since the Chatham bellbird went extinct in the early 20th century. It is best known for singing its beautiful bell-like song.
The highly detailed acrylic painting is on A4 sized (21cm x 29.7cm) 300gsm watercolour paper.
The painted area is 17.5cm x 26.3cm with a border of 1.8cm.
It is titled and signed by Kirsty McMahon.
