The original painting 'Portrait of a Huia' features a female huia bird surrounded by vibrant karaka berries and leaves.
The huia was a beautiful native NZ wattle bird who sadly became extinct in the late 19th century due to a combination of hunting, bush clearance and predation.
The highly detailed acrylic painting is on A4 sized (21cm x 29.7cm) 300gsm watercolour paper.
The painted area is 17.5cm x 26.3cm with a border of 1.8cm.
It is titled and signed by Kirsty McMahon.
